Dr O. L. M Yoosoof who comes from a well-known and talented family is the grandson of the late Kuppa Thamby Hadjiar, who is hailing from a well renowned upcountry family “udayar”, ranking to the position of Madiga Muhandiram of Rambukkana and is of the original moor families of this country. In his time, he was a vel vidana, town headman, registrar of marriages, births & deaths. Dr O. L. M Yoosoof was a talented Unani and Ayruvedic physician in the capital city, a land owning planter of Rambukkana and reputed as a social worker of community, religious and educational development.

Dr O. L. M Yoosoof obtained his primary education from the bilingual school of Mawanella and entered the Institute of Indigenous medicine of university of Colombo. Thereafter he was a lecturer at the Institute of Indigenous medicine of university of Colombo and was a specialist and consultant in children’s diseases.

He opened his clinic “Colombo Central Dispensary and Pharmacy” at Dematagoda to start his private practice. Then he opened a hospital and nursing home in Maradana named “New Central Hospital and Nursing home of Indigenous medicine”. He was then appointed as a coroner in Colombo.

His qualities of character are as outstanding as his intellectual attainments and his human understanding, wisdom, simplicity of outlook and intellectual honesty, endears him and all those who have had the privilege in associating with him descending, as Doctor Yoosoof is from a family who has been closely connected with the royal physicians of the ancient sinhalese kings – Doctor Yoosoof is truly gifted and in his sphere of speciality as he reigns supreme.
